ORCHARDS – SINGLE REVIEW

Orchards – Luv You 2 (Big Scary Monsters Records)

Orchards - Luv You 2

Release Date: Out Now

Some bands come my way with a reputation but, in this case, it is the label that has that reputation – Big Scary Monsters have an excellent roster which you need to check out if you haven’t already done so. So, new signings Orchards have a lot to live up to, but boy do they know what they’re doing. New single ‘Luv You 2’ is a sweet, sweet blend of indie guitars, pop melodies and art rock ambition and it will leave your head spinning in the most glorious way. The bass drives this one while the drums are wonderfully erratic, and the guitars are in a strange place somewhere between Vampire Weekend and Biffy Clyro. As if this cake needed any topping off, the vocals of Lucy Evers are the perfect blend of sugar and spice with the melodies drawing you away before the slap in the face reminds you of your place. There are comparisons with fellow Brightonians Beach Riot but there’s more than enough room in this world for both bands so don’t feel like you’ve got to choose favourites.

Live dates:

11th April – The Key Club, Leeds w/Tiny Moving Parts + Hora Douse
27th April – The Cookie, Leicester w/TTNG + Dark Dark Horse
12th May – Exeter Queer Punk Fest @ The Cavern, Exeter
