JESS MCALLISTER – SINGLE REVIEW

Jess McAllister – I Am A Woman

Jess McAllister - I Am A Woman

Release Date: Out Now

There could be no better way to sign off on International Women’s Day than with a track called ‘I Am A Woman’. Exeter based musician Jess McAllister is responsible for this suspiciously well timed single and it’s a peach of a track from the slinky bass and shimmering guitars that open proceedings up to McAllister’s voice which is part country and part rock’n’roll. Think First Aid Kit, Florence + The Machine and Rosie the Crow jamming together under the musical tutelage of the Indigo Girls around a mid-west campfire as the sun goes down and the smoke to start rising. There is a calmness and assuredness to this track in amongst the Duane Eddy guitars and whooping vocals that bring this to a steadily tumultuous and glorious crescendo. A great tune in it’s own right but with the strong message in the lyrics and, again, that timing this could just be a strong contender for single of the year. Bravo, sister, bravo.
