London based Scarlet Baxter has
been on my radar for a while now but this new single has placed her firmly in
the Country category and no mistake. ‘Skydive’ blends the pop confidence of
Kelly Clarkson and Ellie Goulding with the Country twang of Wildwood Kin and
Lady Antebellum to create a soothing, snuggle up piece of break-up Country-Pop.
This is a modern ballad with just enough about it to stop it getting stale and,
crucially, Baxter doesn’t try to over sing a single note which is a sure sign
that she’s not only got talent but also confidence in her own abilities. This
is unlikely to be the track that propels Baxter to mainstream fame unless Radio
2 get behind it but expect this to get a rerelease if she hits the big time in
2018.
