CASTLES - SINGLE REVIEW

CaStLeS - PartDepart
CaStLeS - PartDepart

Release Date: Out Now

I can't be fully sure what the name of this Welsh trio is but I don't really care. What I do care about is that they have created, in 'PartDepart', a song of hypnotic layers, beautiful sounds and a real sense of space that is sadly lacking in so much modern music. There is a Super Fury Animals influence in there but also a whole host of other things from Lemon Jelly, Django Django and Everything Everything to the Beach Boys and Jefferson Airplane. Mixing synth loops, simplistic guitar riffs, Bez-ian percussion and some close male voice harmonies all swirl together in a cauldron of flavours and sensations which, by the time this track reaches its rhythm climax, totally overwhelm the senses. I don't know what they are putting in the water in Wales these days but I think it might be time for a road-trip.
