OLIVER WILDE - SINGLE REVIEW

Oliver Wilde - Play & Be Saved (Howling Owl Records)
Oliver Wilde - Play & Be Saved

It has been a while since I've had anything new through from Bristol but those fine fellows at Howling Owl Records have uncovered another nugget for our consideration. Oliver Wilde has what I would call twisted ears because what starts out as an optimistic little guitar melody soon morphs in to something altogether more sinister. 'Play & Be Saved' is one of those tunes that could potentially sound exactly the same backwards as it does forwards with lazy drums and wailing guitars providing a psychedelic experience to accompany the mumbled vocals of Bristolian Wilde. I can imagine this sounding blissful floating across a sunny field on a Sunday afternoon or at three in the morning after a few too many shmokes. Either way, Oliver Wilde is on to something here. Or loads of things. Or nothing at all. I'm not sure but it's fun trying to work it out...
